Description:
A brilliant acoustic trio
Three Swedish masters: Jonas Simonson (from Groupa and Den Fule) on flutes, Sten Källman (Simbi, Den Fule) on saxes and percussion, and fiddler Hans Kennemark (Forsmark Tre).
Bäsk bring fresh arrangements to the acoustic trio sound, taking melodies designed for solo fiddle and arranging them for a trio. The instrumentation changes from fiddle-flute-soprano saxophone to fiddle backed by bass and baritone sax. In between, you'll hear Simonson's assorted flutes (for instance the sälgflöjt), and various percussion instruments played by Sten Källman.
Bäsk is great background or dinnertime music, while on closer listening it provides a satisfying study of counterpoint and harmony. The intricate interplay of these three musicians propels a brilliant set of traditional and original tunes. A pleasant and adventuresome album.
